It's a New Year, bring on 2013

I am very excited about 2013... I have no idea what new adventures will be placed before me, and I like it that way! Who wants to predict the future??? How boring life would be if we knew what was just around the corner...

I have lots of personal things to look forward to, such as family trips, new activities I am going to try (spinning classes), and just that awesome feeling of being able to wipe the slate clean as a new year begins!

I also have a few exciting projects in the works with my little biz (Giddy Up & Grow)! I can't talk about them now, but closer to the time, I will let you all know what is happening!!

I am trying something new in 2013 with my shop! I will be providing you with monthly trend updates, just like a magazine. I invite each of you to send me any ideas/trends/diy projects you may want featured for that month. You can email me at giddyupandgrow@gmail.com!

Here is January!

These informational images will be found here on the blog, on the facebook page, and on instagram for those who like to follow there... Here is the list:

The February image will be ready mid January!!

Now that I have explained what these images are, here are the details behind the headlines for January!

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S

Some of us older folk know the iconic movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's", and of course the actress Audrey Hepburn. When I think of this classic movie, I think of Fashion, Chanel, Pearl Jewelry, Crystal Tiaras, and the classic Tiffany Jewelry Box! I created a fun hair clip set inspired by Audrey Hepburn and her character in this movie. What a fun way to introduce your little fashion maven to this famous style icon!

This hair clip set can be found by clicking here!

SPRING TRENDS: FEATHERS & FLORAL

A trend that is continuing over from Fall/Winter are the ever popular feathers! You will be able to find feathers in true and felt fabric form, in the shop! LUNA Magazine featured the Giddy Up & Grow feather and leaf clips in one of their fall issues!

You can find a version of these fun clips, by clicking here!

ARCHERY: BOW & ARROW HAIR ACCESSORIES

Archery has become very popular over the past year with such films like the Hunger Games and BRAVE. You can find a Disney inspired BRAVE hair clip set here! And a gold glitter twig arrow hair clip below!

COLOUR TREND: BRIGHT YELLOW

Fashion 2013 trends include bright yellow colours for spring/summer 2013. I am working on a set of bright yellow daffodil hair clips, that will be available soon!

Here is a colour board with some of my favourite colours for spring!

GLITTER & METALLICS SHINE FOR SPRING

I love gold and I love glitter, so it's no surprise that I like to add a touch of glitter or gold to any of my hair accessory designs. So you wont be surprised when this trend continues!!

Here is a new headband design with flowers and of course a gold glitter bow!!

Of course I want to finish by wishing you and your families a wonderful, safe, happy and healthy New Year!!

A Very Family Christmas

Today we enjoyed some festive family cheer, at my husband's company Christmas party! Also a big hit with the kids!

Finally I was able to get a Santa picture without anyone crying!! I swear these are the hardest shots to get!

If you are attending any Holiday parties that involve kids, this would be the perfect hostess gift! It will entertain the kids and make your house smell amazing! I used my favourite playdough recipe, and just added a few Holiday ingredients! See recipe below!

Gingerbread Playdough Recipe

*4 cups all purpose flour
*4 cups water
*1 cup salt
*2 tablespoons cooking oil
*4 teaspoons cream of tartar
*2 tbsp. ground cinnamon
*4 tsp. ground ginger
*4 tsp. ground nutmeg
*4 tsp. ground cloves
*1 tsp orange extract {optional}

In a large pot whisk together dry ingredients. Next add the water, oil, and orange extract and stir until a thick batter is formed. Cook the mixture over low/medium heat until a thick dough forms. Turn out onto parchment paper and knead until smooth.

Divide the dough and store in small mason jars which you can decorate for gift giving! The picture above was provided by www.sweetsugarbelle.com, which also provides a recipe!

Happy entertaining!!

A Whimsical Life, A New Bedroom Idea

For those who know me well, know I love whimsical treasures... Furniture, decoration and jewelry are all favourites of mine to find a little touch of whimsy!

One of the best places to create whimsy in your home, is in a baby nursery or a child's bedroom. As my children get older, i am finding myself wanting and needing to change there bedrooms around. My son started grade school this year, and now needs a space for a desk. My daughter will be three at Christmas, and no longer needs all those baby nic nacs I had collected during pregnancy.

I have been researching fun and whimsical ideas on how to rearrange and decorate their rooms, while giving them the spaces they need and creating a fun environment.

During my search, I found some really fun and imaginative ideas!

Here is a fun retro style room in a woodland theme. I love how essentially easy this would be to recreate without going all the way "camp ground". All you need is a piece of artificial grass or green rug and some woodland themed wall decals to get the basic woodland feel.

i found this room on The Lettered Cottage Blog

Here is a fun Fawn figurine I found on etsy.com

Here is a green rug idea I found at Ikea

Wall decals are an easy and less expensive alternative to wall paper. Most decals are available in a variety of colours. These were found on etsy.com
Textiles are also a fun and inexpensive way to change a room. Curtains and cushions in a woodland theme would be a great addition to this Woodland themed room.

Woodsy curtains found at shopregal.ca

Woodland animal theme cushions from Savage Seeds

Try mixing new decorations with vintage finds or garage sale bargains. This is a great way to personalize a room into one-of-a-kind without breaking your budget! You also will have a more "homey" feel instead of just a Big Box store replica.

Most of all, have fun decorating your child's room. Maybe even ask them for their ideas!

If you have a little girl and want woodland themed hair accessories.... Giddy Up & Grow has you covered. Here are a few accessories currently in the shop!

Leaf Garland Headband

Pinterest.com is a great resource for organizing your decorating ideas into story boards, while being able to find fun ideas too.

Happy Decorating!!

It's been forever...

That is an understatement... I don't think i have blogged since last spring. Why? I have no idea.. Pure social media laziness!!

Well I have made some changes... I had a previous blog called Mommy in a Wonderland, which was more of a personal blog where the Grandparents could see the happenings with my family. But now that my shop is growing, expanding and getting more and more exciting, I felt like I needed a blog specifically featuring my shop, new items and what has been inspiring me!

I would love it if you could follow along!

Here are a few things that are inspiring me right now!

FAIR ISLE...
It's fall here in the Prairies (Alberta, Canada)

WOODLAND...
Who doesn't love a cute Fox, Owl or Fawn accessory for Fall and Winter

PUMPKIN
Craving pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin coloured denim and even pumpkin coloured accessories!

It's Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, and we are celebrating! We eat turkey, spend time with family, and enjoy the crisp cool air outside. This year my husband and I are attending a wedding on Thanksgiving Day, in the Rocky Mountains.

Until next time!
